Please do NOT run a scan yet! Are you referring to the MAC address maybe being blocked by the router's firewall? It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. all the registry entries regarding steam maybe delete them and reinstall steam...

Went back to yesterday's registry, tried to change icons, tried messing with file associations, but nothing seems to work.
