started WPS worked. I've double checked the extender set up and the wireless device, I put the same password in both places and it matches the one on the router. only 6Mb wireless in the workshop.If I took another wifi router and plugged it into the LAN port of the N300 and set it to use a non-conflicting wifi channel I Wi-Fi signals are insignificant.Unless you are living in the middle of nowhere, you are already being bombarded by your neighbor's Wi-Fi signals.
